One of the claims of the trans ideology is that gender shifting is a way to fight the patriarchy. But what they can’t see, or if they do see they choose to ignore, is that in fixing labels on gender with baby blue and pink striped stickers, the patriarchy is being reinforced. To be blunt, instead of “fuck the patriarchy” we are getting “give the patriarchy a blowjob.”
The New York Times published an opinion piece by a trans ID female who speculates that Louisa May Alcott may have actually been trans. Like her. This is Peyton Thomas, spreading the gospel of patriarchy:
The word transgender arrived in the English lexicon after Alcott’s lifetime. The German physician Magnus Hirschfeld coined the term “seelischer Transsexualismus” in 1923. The sexologist David Oliver Cauldwell translated this into “transsexual” in 1949, and the psychiatrist John F. Oliven proposed “transgender” as an alternative term in 1965. Alcott died in 1888, too early to use this vocabulary. Nonetheless, in an interview in the early 1880s, she declared, “I am more than half-persuaded that I am a man’s soul, put by some freak of nature into a woman’s body.” She may not have known the word “transgender,” but she certainly knew the feeling it describes.
The explanation for Louisa May Alcott’s masculine characteristics? A gendersoul. This is metaphysical, non-demonstrable, and strictly-based-on-individual-perception-of-self 1filtered through the gendered way that women and men are supposed to act and think of themselves.
So, tell me what a young girl who does not like fluffy pink tu-tus but would rather climb trees and play with Matchbox cars, who races against boys and helps out with car maintenance, should think of herself when reflected in this attitude? Instead of a message that she’s a healthy, developing child who will form her own path and be able to handle a roadside breakdown of her car, she will get the message that since she isn’t girly there is really a boy inside of her that she must alter herself physically to reflect.
It’s not a stretch to realize how girls face limits on their goals and aspirations as girls. They see a message that women can only get so far, even now. They see that Kamala Harris is the first woman to be elected vice president, and can see how she is demeaned for being a woman in politics. They see how Kari Lake is ridiculed for trying to maintain the appearance of youth, while men are not.2 They see the difference between women’s stage costumes and men’s costumes in popular music. They see that in order to be popular they are expected to adopt some sort of femininity in appearance, while boys don’t need to do that.
Girls who just want to be themselves get the message that this would be so much easier if they were boys, and they would have a bit more privilege if they present themselves as male, will latch onto the message that girls are devalued by the patriarchy and life would be so much better for them if they were boys.
And this is the message that Peyton Thomas is spreading. If the idea that an internal sense of self is the true nature of how we identify as male and female, then we are reinforcing the idea that males and females have fixed natural roles. If a woman does not feel subordinate, then she must actually be male. If Brandi Carlyle doesn’t wear a bodice on stage, is she actually a man?
When we assign traits as masculine or feminine we are defining social norms, based on what expectations of male and female should be. This is what gender is. It’s separate from the biological function of reproduction. Males and females are complementary sexually, not only in humans but in most plants, and animals. While there may be exceptions in some species as how they relate to environmental pressures, the male and female sexes are discrete. Not so for femininity or masculinity. Those are malleable features of society, and in woke parlance are now referred to as constructs.
If we remove the sexual reproduction aspect from defining male and female, and refer instead to an internal sense derived from gender soul, or “gender identity,” we remove the understanding of why Alcott may have felt misplaced as a woman. It takes away the reference point that explains why women are subordinate to men. Women are the childbearing sex,3 and this leads to the patriarchal role of childrearing, home maintenance and service roles.
It has also led to the differentiation in power between the sexes, and gender enforces this power differential. So, for Peyton Thomas to believe she is justified in claiming to be a trans male, she seeks out and identifies a historical female hero and labels her with masculine traits and “just asks the question” of whether or not that woman was in her soul a male trapped in a female body. And it’s very helpful that this target is dead, because she is not around to rebut any arguments.
I make the radical proposal that women be valued as women without trying to find an ephemeral explanation for why they don’t fit their assigned feminine roles. Let girls be girls and explore life as they are, rather than as we want them to be. Perhaps Peyton could learn to accept that she is a woman, and find happiness in success.
Merry Christmas girls, I hope you get the Lego set you wanted.
Not content with run-on sentences, I also feature run-on adjectives.
Liberals are not excused from enforcing the patriarchy. Sexist attacks on a conservative woman are still sexist. I can’t stand Kari Lake and I’m not defending her personally, but the charges against her for being an awful person should be concentrated on the way she is trying to attack the democratic process in order to cozy up to Trump, rather than her use of makeup techniques on camera.
We can observe in other species that this does not make females the weaker sex, but in humans sexual selection has enhanced the sexual dimorphism between males and females.
Hands off Louisa May Alcott.
In her era, women wore corsets, rode side saddle, couldn't vote, & it was rare to have their own money or autonomy..
She wan't 'identifying as a man' she wanted the possibilities open to men but not to her.
Excellent!!!
